Healing In Community: A Strong Start To The Year

Honoring Legacy Through Action

We started the year strong with Nourish the Block, an event sponsored by the City of St. Petersburg in honor of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This moment felt especially meaningful for us. Receiving this grant was a full circle reminder that the work we have been doing in our community matters.

More than 100 community members, volunteers, and wellness workers filled the space that day. The energy was powerful. Conversations were flowing. People were connecting with one another and leaving the room feeling nourished in more ways than one. This is what community care looks like in action.

As community leaders, we believe honoring Dr. King’s legacy goes beyond remembering his words. It means practicing the values he lived by. That means showing up, caring for your loved ones and neighbors. It can also look like contributing to the wellbeing of your community.

We challenge you to carry those values forward, just like we do,  and become what we call a community villager. If you are wondering what that looks like, you can learn more here.

Connection with Lovers and Friends

In February, our focus shifted to connection. Our Lovers and Friends Partner Yoga class invited participants to explore trust, communication, and balance through movement.

Partner yoga requires you to listen, communicate what you are feeling, and move in collaboration with someone else. These lessons extend far beyond the mat. This is important because our relationships matter. The way we communicate with one another matters. Being able to express what we need and listen to others is an important part of building healthy communities.

The space was full of laughter, encouragement, and moments of genuine connection. These moments lift the spirits and make room for more peace, love, and joy.

Healing in Community

We will close out this quarter with Are+Be Yoga: In My Feels on Friday March 13th as we continue our theme of healing in community.

Healing together invites us to step outside of our everyday environments and build the emotional and physical muscles needed to support our wellness journeys. These spaces remind us that we are not meant to carry everything alone.

Over the past few months, nearly 200 people have participated in Brown Care Collective experiences. And we are just getting started.

Community Needs Participation

Community cannot be built by one organization or one group of leaders. It requires participation from all of us. Yes, that includes you.

If you have experienced Brown Care Collective, we invite you to help us expand our reach.

Bring a friend to the next event. Tell someone about the experience you had. Leave us a Google review here

When we show up for ourselves and for one another, we strengthen the communities we live in. We are grateful to grow alongside you and we hope to see you at our next gathering.

With care and gratitude,

Brown Care Collective 🤎
